On February 7, 2023, the ASCAPE team and one of its key partners, the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Novi Sad, will host a hybrid workshop called "Healthcare Information Systems: AI in processing Big Data with Privacy Preserving Techniques" to discuss the design, development, and use of the ASCAPE open AI infrastructure, which makes use of Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and other technologies to enhance the quality of life and health status of cancer patients.
With roots in computer science extending back to the 1950s, Artificial Intelligence has recently attracted renewed interest thanks to the usefulness of Machine Learning (ML) techniques. Usable AI systems that can learn from data, extract and generalize knowledge, and uncover underlying factors that can be utilized to interpret data is the major goal of researchers. Since these factors produce the greatest outcomes, the key problem is constantly choosing the right characteristics and data, as well as how to interpret them. On the other hand, over the past ten years, there has been an emphasis on protecting data privacy without impeding the use of machine learning-based techniques for data analysis and prediction. A number of privacy-preserving methods have been created recently to strike a compromise between the utility of data and privacy. Even while encouraging results have been attained, adoption and applicability depend largely on the use case because each technique provides a trade-off between performance and privacy, which is also the case for applications used in the healthcare sector.
To discuss the aforementioned challenges, current trends, and significant technological advancements that are motivated by the experience gained during the implementation of the project, ASCAPE researchers and fellow EU projects FAITH, LifeChamps, and SILICOFCM coming from several academic and research institutions are part of this workshop. This will start on February 7, 2023, at 10 a.m. (CET) to be held at the University of Novi Sad, in the Rectorate building (room I-16).
